Polyurea Tank Lining

Polyurea linings for petroleum, chemical, and water storage tanks. Chemical-resistant, seamless, corrosion protection.

Why Polyurea Is the Gold Standard for Tank Lining and Corrosion Protection

Polyurea tank linings deliver chemical and abrasion resistance that traditional epoxy, PVC, and FRP liners cannot match — with a 10–100× faster cure and a 15–25 year service life. Sprayed as a 100% solids, two-component system through high-pressure plural-component equipment, polyurea forms a seamless, pinhole-free membrane with elongation over 400% and tear strength above 80 kN/m, so it bridges substrate movement and thermal cycling without cracking. Pioneer JYYJ high-pressure machines (25–36 MPa) atomize the A and B components completely — the single most important factor in achieving a holiday-free polyurea tank lining that genuinely stops corrosion.

Compared with brush- or roller-applied epoxy, sprayed polyurea linings for tanks return the asset to service in hours instead of days, eliminating the multi-day cure windows that drive tank-downtime cost. And because the membrane is monolithic, there are no seams or weep paths where corrosion can initiate — the failure mode that ends the life of most lined steel and concrete tanks.

Warning Signs Your Tank Lining Is Failing

A failing lining rarely fails all at once. These symptoms mean a polyurea re-line should be scheduled before a containment breach becomes an environmental or production incident.

⚠ Blistering & DelaminationCoating lifting off the substrate signals adhesion loss — water or product has migrated under the film and corrosion is already underway.
⚠ Pinhole CorrosionRust bleeding through the liner indicates holidays (pinholes) in brittle epoxy — each one is a weep path toward full-wall perforation.
⚠ Chemical Attack & SofteningSoftening, swelling, or discoloration where product contacts the wall means the liner chemistry is out-matched by the stored medium.
⚠ Cracking at Seams & WeldsEpoxy and FRP crack at tank seams under thermal cycling and flexure — the #1 reason rigid liners fail where flexible polyurea survives.

Acid & Brine Storage

Chemical-resistant polyurea for dilute acids, caustics, and salt brines. Verify specific service against the material data sheet.

Secondary Chemical Containment

Monolithic lining for chemical bund areas and trenches — no seams for aggressive media to undercut.

FGD & Scrubber Vessels

Flue-gas desulfurization absorbers and scrubber sumps where temperature and chemistry both cycle hard.

Process Sumps & Trenches

Seamless, fast-cure lining for floor sumps and drainage trenches in chemical plants.

⛏️ Mining & Mineral Processing

Abrasion-resistant polyurea lining applied to a mining slurry and tailings tank

Recommended machine: JYYJ-H-V8T — the heavy-duty rig for the abrasion-grade builds that mining equipment polyurea linings require.

Tailings & Leach Tanks

Abrasion- and acid-resistant polyurea for leach tanks and tailings storage where slurry chemistry attacks bare steel.

Slurry Tanks & Pump Boxes

High-build polyurea wear lining outlasts rubber and ceramic in many slurry-handling tanks and pump boxes.

Chutes, Launders & Hoppers

Impact- and abrasion-resistant lining for transfer chutes, launders, and ore hoppers — protects mining equipment from wash-out wear.

Flotation Cells

Seamless polyurea protects flotation cell walls from reagent attack and abrasive pulp.

Polyurea Tank Lining — 5-Step Application Process

1Abrasive BlastBlast steel to Sa 2.5 / concrete to CSP 3–5. Surface profile is the foundation of adhesion.
2PrimeApply substrate-matched primer (steel / concrete) inside the recoat window — no flash rust.
3Spray PolyureaPlural-component spray at 25–36 MPa, hose 60–70°C. Build full DFT in one continuous pass.
4Holiday TestHigh-voltage spark-test the full membrane. Repair any holidays before service.

Three Polyurea Systems for Tank Lining — Choose by Service

The right chemistry depends on the stored medium, UV exposure, and abrasion load.

🛢️Aromatic Pure Polyurea100% solids · interior service
The workhorse for tank interiors and buried containment. Highest chemical and abrasion resistance at the lowest material cost. Darkens under UV (cosmetic only), so it is ideal where the lining is not sun-exposed — exactly the case inside a tank.
☀️Aliphatic Pure Polyurea100% solids · UV-stable
Color- and gloss-stable topcoat for exposed tank exteriors, roofs, and secondary containment where appearance and UV durability matter. Often applied as a thin topcoat over an aromatic base to combine cost with UV stability.
⚙️Hybrid Polyurea + Primer System
Polyurea-polyurethane hybrid with a slightly longer gel time for better wet-out on porous concrete, paired with a substrate-matched primer. The cost-effective route for large concrete reservoirs and containment areas where a few extra seconds of working time improve penetration.

Pioneer JYYJ machines are formulation-agnostic — the same polyurea tank lining equipment sprays all three systems. Material choice is independent of machine selection, and Pioneer can supply both the JYYJ rig and matched A/B materials as a turnkey package.

Why This Setup Works

1

Chemical resistance: acids, bases, hydrocarbons, salt solutions

2

Seamless integrity — no pinholes, no weep paths for corrosion initiation

3

Return-to-service in hours, not days — minimizes tank downtime cost

4

Service life 15-25 years vs 5-10 for traditional epoxy systems

Technical Considerations

  • Substrate preparation: abrasive blast to Sa 2.5 minimum
  • Primer selection depends on substrate material (carbon steel / stainless / concrete)
  • Compatibility check: verify chemical service with material manufacturer
  • Ambient condition window: surface temp > dew point +3°C
